100 Days of Life on the Road

I am so excited to announce that after a long time of saving, planning, and prepping, my partner and I have hit the road with our dogs (and Jackson, our cat) in a new and exciting era of RV life.  After 100 days on the road, here’s why we made the leap, how it’s really been, and what the future looks like for us and for my couples.

Why Did We Do It?

Being outside has always been my biggest passion, which is what led to my love of traveling.  I think visiting cities is great, but what really gets me excited is discovering and exploring outdoor areas I’ve never been to.  Even if it’s a well-known spot or miles into the boonies, the feeling of “what's next” or ”what will it look like”, is something I think I live for, you know?

Van life had never occurred to me as an actual possibility until it started to get popular during Covid. I got to see how regular people, like me, were making it happen for themselves, which led me to literally putting my extra money into a box in an effort to make my dream real.

Soon after, I met my now partner PJ, pitched him my dream, and amazingly, he supported it with the same enthusiasm as me.  Together, we stuck with it until November of last year (2024), when we were blessed to buy our first RV–which is the cutest freaking Minnie Winnie you’ll ever see.  We spent the next few months prepping and finally hit the road when we knew the weather would favor our first trip across the US.

What It's Really Like

We’ve been traveling for 50 days now, maybe a little more at the time of posting this, but the best way I can describe the entire experience so far is just…magical.  Like a peaceful kind, where I feel like I’m floating through a lot of moments as if it were still a dream, and I’m actually just in my bed, wondering what RV life would be like.

The mobility alone has been life-changing. Being able to move our home wherever we need or want it to be feels surreal. Sometimes, I’ll step outside after a long drive and realize, this is our home still, even after traveling hundreds of miles.

However, it does come with challenges we’re learning to navigate through. One of the biggest things I’ve noticed is that everything takes longer, like dishes, driving, dumping tanks, and even finding a place to park.

But it’s also deeply grounding. You learn to appreciate the little things, like a cup of coffee, a small creek, clean floors (for five minutes, anyway), and better yet, seeing my dogs live their happiest day, every single day.

No two days are the same. It’s messy, unpredictable, and sometimes exhausting, but it’s also real and freeing in a way I didn’t expect–and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

How It’s Impacted My Work

Our lives have already been changed, and so has my work.  I’m getting to experience places first hand, seeing what they’re like in different seasons, talking to locals, and exploring without it just being “location scouting” or “hiking”.  Not counting the places we visit during travel days, our “home bases” often tend to be our general home for extended periods, which gives us the chance to really explore each state.  For my couples, this means that when I recommend locations, it’s because it’s a personal recommendation.  I’ve hiked the trail, know what the road conditions are like, and where the sun hits just right–and not to mention, I can tell you where to visit in town during your stay.

What’s Next

I am so grateful and excited that my work with you guys is taking us to Yellowstone, Alaska, Phoenix, Redwoods National Park, and West Virginia so far this year. I’m hoping to explore Crater Lake, the Oregon coast, and the Columbia River Gorge while we stay in Eugene for a bit. Maybe I’ll offer specials for anyone interested in those areas–what do you think?

Your support and trust in guiding your adventures mean the absolute world to me.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you!
